Cards of the Day
June 7, 2008
Lots of people think that Tarot and oracle cards are mostly for “fortune telling”. Today, I’d like to show how consulting the cards helps me with the ups and downs of everyday life.
This morning after my usual “stuff” - like taking care of my dog and 4 cats and cockatiel, I booted up the computer and checked my e-mail. There was a letter from a lady I’d gotten to know through her blog telling me that she was quitting blogging and had deleted her blog. She is a very private person and hadn’t wanted her blog publicized at all - didn’t want to be added to a blogroll or anything like that.
This really upset me for some reason and started me thinking about another blogger I miss – Aristede. Then, I got to thinking about blogging and wondering why I do it and if it was the right thing to do and yada, yada, yaha (you know how you can go round and round in your head). Then I started reading all my favorite blogs and thought about it even more – should I really be doing my own blog or just reading other people’s blogs? It was one of those times when you feel like everyone else does something better than you do.
Next, I sat down with my Sharman-Caselli Tarot to draw a card for the day. While shuffling, I was thinking about the whole blog thing and wondering why I blog and should I continue blogging – I fully expected I would draw something like the 8 of Cups. Surprisingly, the 3 of Cups turned up. Well, I thought, this card is totally unrelated to how I’m feeling or thinking right now. Then, I started to really think about it – that 3 of Cups was telling me why I blog! I get a lot of happiness from being a part of the blogging community and feeling a part of things – especially card things. After that, I felt so much better and could understand why blogging was important to me.
On a whim, I pulled out my favorite Lenormand deck – the Lenomand Oracle and drew three cards while asking – what can you tell me about all this? These are the cards I drew:

It’s so clear! My lucky stars stand between the ring and the sycthe- preventing a severed relationship. Drawing the 3 of Cups was the lucky intervention that stopped me from breaking off a relationship with blogging!
To me, today’s experience with the cards shows how helpful cards can be in everyday life. They allow you to look more closely at why you are thinking the way you are and have the vision to see if there is a better way of thinking. Kind of like giving yourself a kick up your own behind! I guess, what I’m trying to say is – Tarot and Oracle cards are valuable as psychological tools for knowing yourself better.

Oh, Sammie…I’m SO glad you decided to continue blogging. Your posts are always a highlight of my day! You add so much to the card-reading community and would be greatly missed if you stopped writing.
(I too, have missed Aristede’s posts.)
Hugs,
Kiki

Thank you, Kiki.
I’m glad, too. It really does give me such a lot of joy to do this blog. For some reason, I got into such a negative mood yesterday. Thank goodness the cards snapped me out of it!

I’d miss you terribly, Sammie. I do know what you mean, I think. That feeling of being so foolish and why am I writing all this stupid stuff on the web, nobody cares and I’ll just embarass myself.
NOT to say you’re doing that. But I feel like that a lot about my blog.
But this is a nice little place, and the people I’ve ‘met’ here really are lovely. I’d hate to give that up. And I hope you don’t give it up, either. You’re so kind and insightful, and hey – what would I do without you tempting me to buy decks, or Mary Poppins coming over to comment?
I realy appreciate you, and I’m glad you’re here. And I agree that it is a 3 of Cups sort of thing. And unbelievably happy your lucky stars got in the way!
{{{hugs}}}

What a sweetie you are, Chanah!
Thanks for your lovely comment. I think that so many of us that like to read cards always question our motives – I know that is what draws me to read cards for myself.
This is such an apt statement – exactly how I was feeling yesterday morning!

Dear Sammie,
I think your blog is wonderful and you have a generous and insightful nature. That is what drew me to respond to you in the first place.
I decided to close my blog for purely personal reasons that have to do with my own direction and needs at present. It does not feel right for me to be posting such personal thoughts on the Internet right now when I am still uncertain of so much.
I am deeply sorry if I upset you. Your comments on my blog were gentle and perceptive. My decision was nothing to do with you.
Like you, I get a great deal from reading the blogs of others. Most of these seem to be American. One of these days, when I have something substantial to share more outwardly I may return to blogging. At the moment, I am still in recovery mode from some serious events and need to be more ‘Hermit’ like. I feel a real need to pay attention to people and issues in my immediate world.
Warmest regards to you and much appreciation for your generous sharing.

Dear dear Sammie!!
It has become such a wonderful niche of sharing and learning.
I have so enjoyed checking in on you and discovering what deck you were sharing, and your very insightful posts….I would very much miss you if you decided to stop!! and that goes for the other wonderful people that I’ve come to know on their blogs..Chanah! you keep writing girl! Stormy, Phoenix, Tarot Dame and a few others
I started my blog to practice learning a certain system,I was a new student to Lenormand and wanted to be disciplined… I wasn’t really thinking that people would be looking ! lol how weird is that?? but I’ve got to tell you, I’ve really enjoyed reading and participating with all the other decks that you & the others have shared….I have been wanting to set up another blog to enjoy the same and to have variety! I’m a card collector/lover too! you’ve been very inspirational Sammie! Card lovers need to unite and be able to share!
Every time one of us posts, we learn a little different slant on a card or cards that we thought we knew…it helps expand our knowledge, but also helps us learn more about ourselves and each other-
how cool is that? So I really hope that you guys will stick around, we have so much more to give each other
OK that’s the end of my monologue…just wanted to pipe in and tell all of you how much I appreciate you..
Spirity, weighing in

Thanks everyone for your comments and nice thoughts. I feel very much a part of our card reading community – such a GOOD feeling!
Freesparrow – your quiet spirituality gave me cause to think – of my own motives. I learned a lot from your blog. It really made me look inside myself.
Dear Spirity – you really feel like one of my kindred spirits! I think it would be great if you had a blog for all your cards!
