Morgan Greer Tarot – Summer Solstice Reading
June 23, 2008
The Tarot Dame used this spread for a reading on her blog on June 21st, for the first day of summer. I liked it so much, I decided to do one for myself! Mine was done on June 22nd (yesterday) so, it was one day late for the first day of summer. Here is a link to see this spread at the Tarot Dame’s blog: Summer Solstice Reading.
I decided to use the Morgan Greer Tarot as I had a dream about it the night before. In the dream, I was doing a reading for my sister using this deck. It seemed very strange because I’ve never read the cards for any of my sisters or Mom.
Here are the basics for the Summer Solstice Spread:
Pull “The Sun” from the deck and place it face up in the center.
1. During the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year, more light is available to us. What in my life has been in shadow, that I need to shine a bright light on so I can see it clearly for what it is?
2. The word “solstice” comes from the Latin “sol” (meaning sun) and “sistere” (meaning to cause to stand still). What in my life am I trying to force into happening when instead I need to be still and patient?
3. The Summer Solstice is often called “Midsummer” because it is roughly in the middle of the growing season. What in my life is fertile and productive now? Where are my opportunities for growth?
4. After Summer Solstice, the days gradually become shorter, and the sun’s strength wanes as winter approaches. What is waning in my life? What do I need to release?
Here’s a bigger picture of the cards I drew:

The Interpretation:
- What in my life has been in shadow, that I need to shine a bright light on so I can see it clearly for what it is? The Lovers: It looks like I need to really look at my marriage and see if somehow I’m not seeing it for what it really is.
- What in my life am I trying to force into happening when instead I need to be still and patient? The Two of Rods: Hmmm, I’m not really sure about his. For some reason, the 2 of Rods (Wands) always seems so vague to me. Perhaps, I just need to be patient about wanting to be in charge of something. I think it’s kind of significant that in this 2 of Rods another hand is coming into the picture with the second rod – it looks like if I’m patient with trying to be in control of something that something or someone might come along and help. Very vague, I’m still not really sure what this means.
- What in my life is fertile and productive now? Where are my opportunities for growth? The Ace of Wands: I think this is saying that now is a good time to start a new energetic type project – perhaps some home improvements. I’d really like to paint my living room and put in new carpet – maybe the time is now for this!
- What is waning in my life? What do I need to release? The Ten of Swords: I think this is saying that I need to stop letting myself be a victim – to stop letting myself feel guilty and upset over over things. I’ve already made a big start on this but still need to do more.
This is really a nice spread and I like the insight I received from the reading!
This post has taken me forever to write as the little “Tree” button to insert pictures has disappeared from the writing page. I couldn’t get the other uploading thing to insert pictures either so I had to figure out how to do it with html. I guess that is a good learning experience but it took a lot of time! I want my Tree button back!!!!!!

Very nice reading – I’m a’steal it and try it with L’Oeil de Lotus, I think.
You have buttons? It may be my ancient computer, but the flash loader works, and other than that I have to hand-code the entire blog.
I see the 2 Rods as new projects, feeling like you’ve done it all (whatever it is) in a particular area. But when you look at the Ace of Rods as coming into fruition just now, it looks to me like hold off, because there’s some real inspiration coming – maybe a different direction entirely than where you thought you were going, so don’t start out quite yet.
Very happy to see that 10 Swords in the ‘fade’ position, too! Possibly another good omen about Mr Cranky Pants Husband?
*hugs*

Hi Chanah,
That must be the pits to hand code everything.
Here is a link to see what the screen of the normal writing editor used to look like:
http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/05/15/what-do-all-the-icons-mean/
Now, the little Tree Icon/Button is gone. After I uploaded my pictures with the uploader, I used to use this Tree icon to insert them in just the right place in the blog. Now it’s gone for some reason. A lot of folks have been talking about it on the WordPress Forums. I have no idea why they took it away. Now to do the same thing, you have to do the html code yourself in the html side of the writing editor.

Hi Sammie
I’m liking it how you’re using all these different decks and spreads, you sure have a good collection of decks.
Sure looks like inspiration of new ideas are forming.

Sammie…we’ve got to stop meeting like this… (in the spiritual world I mean!) I just wrote about how the Two of Wands was for a long time the most ambiguous card in the deck for me. (And I’m just kidding about needing to stop, of course…I love the little synchronicities we share!)
Oooh, new paint and carpet… how fun! I love redecorating!

Kiki, I think we must be long lost twins or something! It is weird, but sometimes, I can just feel your longing to move. It is so strong that I can feel it, too.
Phoenix, you are such a sweetie. It is so neat that we can all be friends when we live all over the world.
Thanks, Arwen, for your comment – I’ve learned a lot reading your blog!
