“You Are Here” Spread – The Lenormand Oracle

Today, I decided to use another spread I designed to use with Lenormand Cards. It would probably work with other Oracles or Tarot as well. I call it the “You Are Here” Spread or the “X Marks the Spot” Spread.

It is a spread to clarify where you are now with a current situation. You’d think you would KNOW where you are right now but sometimes a current situation has you fooled or you might be looking at it from the wrong angle. So, this spread is kind of like the ”X” on those maps you see on the walls (or in a stand) in shopping malls, airports or museums that says: YOU ARE HERE. It is weird but it is so easy to get turned around in places like that and when you look at the map and see the X to show where you are – many times, it isn’t where you wanted to be!

Life is like that, too – you think you know where you are but sometimes you don’t. Once in a while you get turned around and even though you think you know what is going on with a situation that is happening, you don’t. This spread will help clarify the present and help you decide if you are where you think you are.

First, chose a significator card from the deck – something that has to do with the current situation you are wondering about. Put it in the center of the spread and then chose four more cards to make an X. I read the diagonal line from the Top Right first and then the diagonal line from the Top Left. I do it this way because that is how I make an X – start at the upper right.

After you put the significator card in the center the other cards are laid out as shown above.

The Cards I used in this spread are the Lenormand Oracle cards by Gina di Roberto.

I chose the Child card to go in the center as I wanted to clarify a situation with my sister’s children.

She called me yesterday with some very upsetting news. Her 18 year old son and her 24 year old step-son have both become involved with drugs. She just recently found this out. Her son lives with his father and the step-son lives in a nearby city so neither of these boys live with her and her husband.

She was quite distraught about this dreadful news and I was, too. The step-son has become addicted to prescription pain killers, this started after he came through a rough time with cancer. He managed to pull through the cancer but ended up addicted to pain killers. They didn’t know about it till this week when he came to them and told them he had lost everything he owned and had built up a huge dept buying these pills on the black market. He was homeless and living in his car. He still has his job though.

Her 18 year old son has gotten in to the habit of taking dangerous “drug cocktails” – where kids take several kinds of drugs washed down with alcohol. I guess this has gotten popular with teenagers. The only reason she found out is because he was found badly beaten up after he had been robbed during one of these drug binges and was taken to the emergency room - the hospital called her for insurance information.

Anyway, it is not a happy situation and I decided to do a “You Are Here” spread with the Child card in the center to represent my sister’s sons.

When you read this spread, combinations aren’t the “be all” and “end all” in interpreting the meaning. Since I chose the child card as the significator – it is always going to represent my sister’s children.  Only the diagonals that make the X are read and interpreted.

Diagonal One:

• Book
• Child
• Clouds

This seems very straightforward, my sister learned a secret about her children that is very troublesome. The Dark Side of the Clouds is facing towards the Child card which I think shows that this trouble is in the building up stage right now.  However, since clouds are almost always transitory, the troubles will eventually blow over (hopefully).

Diagonal Two:

• Ship
• Child
• Fish

I think this is saying that the journey to help these two boys get their lives straightened out is going to be long and expensive.

As my sister and I finished our conversation yesterday, she and her husband were off to the city where her step-son works to rent an apartment for him and get him some furniture and stuff. They will find a drug rehab program for him and have to help him out for a long time. They are also going to pay for an apartment for her 18 year old son as he won’t live with them and will also pay for his drug treatment.

So even though it looks like a long, expensive journey -  the clouds will probably clear up eventually but it’s going to take a long while.

So, all in all, the cards clarified the matter in my mind. Sometimes, my sister is prone to making things out to be worse than they are or better than they are but it looks like she has a good grip on where she is with this situation. It’s bad, but most likely will clear up with help and support – financial along with kindness and love.

I’ve always used this spread with a sigificator card in the center. However, if you are totally unsure of where you are right now, you could probably just draw a card for the center card rather than choosing one for a significator.
