Tarot d’Eltynne ~ Remember To Rest

Today, I decided to return to a deck that is like an old friend – the Tarot d’Eltynne.  Since the tragedy with my cat and five kittens, I hadn’t used a deck that might predict something – just couldn’t face hearing that I might experience some more loss of some sort.  I decided that even though the Tarot d’Eltynne is an honest deck with a lot of negative cards that is was also a gentle deck – so I went ahead and drew three cards:

  • Card 31~ Passions: Passion is symbolized by a Phoenix. Passion is a strong feeling. It may stimulate the construction of great projects. But it may also destroy us. The amorous sentiment is not the only acceptance of this card but all that fascinates us. When in excess it may blind or harm us. This sentiment must be controlled so as to last and not destroy us. It may evolve and transform itself (into deep love or to canalize energy towards accomplishment of a project). If passion destroys us a first time, it may revive under another form just as the Phoenix until we learn to master it.This card symbolizes strong feelings, love or others, goals to be achieved. But it may also indicate suffering through jealousy, violence, impulse, unshared sentiments, and obsession leading to blindness.
  • Card 18 ~ Change: This card symbolizes the movements of the stars and the changes they bring about. It points to an important evolution or transformation. It may also indicate a new cycle. The planets are linked to each other by gravity forces. This invisible force ties the visible to the non visible, the conscious to the subconscious. The planets are dependant on each other in their motion, just as is our conscious and subconscious.
  • Card 09 ~ Country Health: Symbolizes healthy rest and leisure. The vacation aspect of this card points to a need for withdrawal to resource oneself, both physically and psychologically. Nature is the mother of all living beings, it places us in the ecosystem in which we thrive and adjusts the importance we give to our needs. The country side conveys simplicity of life and peace of mind.

The message seems fairly clear. My passions are changing – the things that used to be a driving force in my life are shifting to other things.  This is true – lately, I’ve become more involved in a lot of different things – photography, knitting, my grandkids.  I’ve been spending a lot of time with a new internet project.  The last card is a reminder – don’t become so engrossed and so passionate about something that you forget to rest and take time for all the other simple things in life like eating healthy food and spending time relaxing with friends and family.

This is really an important message for me because I tend to do this a lot.  If I even start playing a game on my Nintendo DS I will become so engrossed with it that I’ll stay up way, way too late playing it.  The same sort of thing happens if I’m working on a computer project or designing a knitting pattern or just about anything – I get so involved that I don’t stop for sleep or even to eat.  Today, even though I was busy with a new project and wanted to update this blog – I took the time to eat a healthy lunch and sit down and read the newspaper while I ate.

Another thing to remember, I think, is that a hotter a passion burns the quicker the fuel for that passion becomes spent and the whole thing just burns itself out.  If you let something be a “smouldering” passion rather than a quick burning passion – I think it will last a long longer.

Here is the first verse of a poem of which I’m reminded:

Love Me Little, Love Me Long ~ Anonymous

Love me little, love me long,
Is the burden of my song.
Love that is too hot and strong
    Burneth soon to waste.
Still, I would not have thee cold,
Not too backward, nor too bold;
Love that lasteth till tis old
     Fadeth not in haste.

Love me little, love me long,
Is the burden of my song.

The Tarot d’Eltynne is a beautiful deck – easy to read and very insightful. If you would like to find out more about the Tarot d’Eltynne, here is a link:
