The Deviant Moon Tarot – Three Cards
Today, I decided to try out my new Deviant Moon Tarot. I’ve had it for a while and looked though it several times and read though the book but had never drawn any cards. It is really an interesting Tarot deck – at first glance it seems to be a “dark” deck but it really isn’t; I find it kind of bittersweet and sometimes even touching.
Many times, I like to use the Tarot like an Oracle – just pull a few cards and see what they have to say. That’s what I decided to do today with the Deviant Moon. Here are the cards:
- The Hanged Man
- The 9 of Swords
- The Wheel of Fortune
The cards picked up on what was going on in my mind so well – almost uncanny. I’ve been anxious the past couple of days, wondering if I should or shouldn’t do something about an opportunity that has popped up. The 9 of Swords in the center is exactly how I’m feeling – the cards on either side are giving advice.
I think these cards can be interpreted in two different ways. One interpretation could be that I am bound, nothing can or should be done about this situation – there is nothing to be done except bide my time and see what happens.
However, I think these cards could also be interpreted in another way - they could be saying: stop piddling around and wasting time and DO something, take fate into your own hands and make something happen.
The meaning for The Hanged Man in the book that comes with this deck has a slightly different take than the standard meaning:
“A citizen hangs suspended in limbo. He is apathetic and feels no urgent need to alter his situation. Time around him does not stand still, however, he must free himself, or his life will pass him by. Meaning: Letting time pass you by. Indecision. Opportunities missed.”
Apathetic is exactly how I’m feeling – I just can’t decide whether I should do something that could ensure this opportunity or not. The book meaning for The Hanged Man tends to make me think that the cards are saying to get cracking and do whatever is necessary and not just let fate determine what is going to happen – do something about it!
The Wheel of Fortune in this deck is one of my favorites of all the Wheels I’ve seen. I really like the book meaning as well:
“The gypsy stares into the future with a blank gaze. She spins the wheel for an uneasy citizen who wishes to know his own fate. Upright: Fortune. Chance. Unplanned happenings. Fate. Destiny. Reversed: Unfortunate events. Unexpected results.”
So far, I like this deck a lot. It seems very intuitive and it’s easy to use in unstructured draws like this.
