Il Vostro Destino – Trying Out A New Deck
Today, I tried out a new deck I received a couple of days ago. It is an Italian Sibilla type deck called Il Vostro Desinto – Your Destiny. It has 52 cards, based on a standard deck of playing cards - each card has an illustration and a little symbol in the upper corner to denote which playing card it represents. The artwork is very appealing and for the most part illustrates the meaning of the card well. On just a few of the cards, I don’t think the picture fits the meaning all that well. Even though it has 52 cards like many of the other Italian Sibilla decks – the cards don’t have the same meanings as the standard Sibilla deck.
The only meanings for the cards are the titles on the cards. The little instruction sheet that came with the deck is very brief and is written in Italian only.
This morning when I shuffled the deck for the first time, I was thinking – tell me something I already know.
These are the cards that turned up:

- Giovane Bruno: Young Man
- Viaggio: Journey or Trip
- Felicità: Happiness
The literal translation of Bruno is brown but an online dictionary said it was also a term Italians use to denote a male person. I’m glad I found that because “Young Brown” doesn’t make much sense!
So, these cards are saying – a young man is going on a trip that will bring him happiness. This is something I know! (I asked the cards to tell me something I already know.) A young man, who is like a son to us, is leaving for a hunting trip in Canada on the weekend. He is very excited about it. Even though I’m not a fan of hunting, it is something he really enjoys. He is going to be hunting caribou on this trip.
All these cards represent Clubs – the little instruction sheet says Clubs represent material wealth, abundance and success.
Then I put these cards back in the deck and reshuffled while thinking – how is his trip going to turn out?
These are the cards that turned up:

- Impossibilità: Impossibility
- Vittoria: Victory
- Speranza: Hope
It looks like victory might be impossible – just a hope of victory. So, perhaps, he won’t be able to shoot a caribou on this journey. That will upset him but not me! He will enjoy the trip and the camaraderie whether he actually kills a caribou or not.
Two of these cards again represent Clubs and one a Spade. It says on the instruction sheet that Spades indicate misfortune, failure and struggle.
Even though the trip will be expensive and it took a lot of work to save up to afford it – it looks like it ultimately will fail.
It will be interesting to see how his hunting trip turns out. I kind of hope the cards will be correct.
If you look at the illustrations on the cards closely (click on pictures to make them larger) – you can see how for the most part they suit the card meanings but sometimes not. The illustration on the Happiness card looks almost like someone is saying good-bye which isn’t really that happy. Perhaps, it is someone returning from a journey. The illustration on the Impossibility card is a poor, old woman sitting with a cat in her lap. I guess some things are impossible for poor people but if I was just looking at this card without a meaning written underneath, I would assume it represented poverty.
